Pics from Brady and Lisa's Wedding

Here are a couple of the section of the church that the reception was held in. And yes...I did intend to catch the reflection of my Beetle in the windows!

The Danger of Expediency

In the last couple Bible studies at church, we've looked at the dangers of expediency. This quote from Matthew Henry seems to encapsulate it very well.

"God is much displeased when he is distrusted and when an arm of flesh is relied on more than his power and goodness. By putting our confidence in God we give honour to him, and therefore he thinks himself affronted if we give that honour to another. " - (Matthew Henry on 2 Chr 16:7-14)

More Fall Colors

These colors are now past and darker muted colors now herald the approach of winter weather. However, these remind of the colors that make fall such a beautiful time of year.

Lights, Camera, ...

Here are a couple of lights from my walk in Park City a while back...and yes, I do realize the first one is crooked.

Timing is Everything

Once in a while, I find that I come up with fluke photographs. I'm sure you know what I mean. When you take the picture, you have no idea there is anything different about it. Later, after looking at the picture, you find that you captured more than you realized. These are a couple of those photos. In the first one, you'll see the dragonfly at the top of the picture. Apparently he was flying by right when the airplane did. In the second, the canopy of the Thunderbirds' F-16 bends the wording on the red biplane's wing so it can be read. Weird eh?

Oh the First Snowfall of the...Fall?

We got our first snow last night...at least the first that stuck around overnight. It started during Bible study and must have stopped some time during the night, because the skies are clear this morning and the temps feel like they are below freezing.

Old Airframes

One of my main photo subjects is airplanes, which I photograph as often as possible. Aircraft span a time period much larger than most cars or trucks, though these have been around longer. It is much easier to see an aircraft built in the 1940's or 1950's than perhaps a car or truck of similar vintage outside of auto shows. Here are a couple of planes in disrepair at a small airport on the east coast. The pics were taken in November 2003.

Grumman Amphib Research

In August, following John and Trista's wedding, Chris John and I went to the library in downtown Seattle to do a little aviation research. We had a great time and got a lot of good info for our own records and for the magazine. During the early afternoon we took a quick lunch break and ran across the street to a nice little Mexican cafe-style place for a bite. Here is Chris getting ready to dig in. I followed suit a moment later!

My Sunday Usual...

Sunday is most definitely my favorite day of the week. Since you all have not experienced one of my Sundays, I thought I'd walk you through a typical one for me here in Logan.

The alarm usually goes off too early, so I reset it for a little later. After repeating this process several times, I get up the courage to throwback the covers and face the morning...in my Air Force sweats and a cup of coffee (unless there is no leftover coffee, which would necesitate brewing a new one).

Next, I sit down at the computer and check blogs for any new pics or info. By this time I can halfway see and think straight, so I fire up e-Sword (my Bible study software) and open up to the book of Ruth. From that point on, I am immersed in Bible study until about 9:15 or so, at which point I realize I need to get ready for church, so I jump up and head for the shower.

At about ten 'till I hop in the car with my guitar, Bible, sermon steno and Ruth steno. As I back out of my parking spot, I give my folks a quick call to see what the morning is holding for them. After a quick 5 min drive I arrive at my parking spot at church...(well, I don't really have a parking spot, but usually park within one or two spaces all the time).

We usually start off with a couple of songs and then Pastor starts preaching the Sunday School message. We have recently finished a study on eschatology (spelling?) or the study of end times, and we have been looking at the doctrine of angels. Around 11:00, we take a break before the main service begins. Usually several more folks show up and that is usually when visitors arrive.

We then sing several songs, have announcements and offering, more songs, and then the main message. We often go until 12:15 or 12:30, and then spend some time chatting afterwards. After that, it's off to Olive Garden for me. I usually spend an hour or two eating and doing more Bible study...that's where the Ruth steno comes in. Sometimes I will key off an idea from the morning's message that compares nicely with the themes from Ruth.

After lunch, I head home. My afternoons vary to some degree, but often I will listen to a message on Ruth from sermonaudio or download a new one. With this playing, I will lay down and drift off to a wonderful "spiritual" nap.

When the alarm goes off, it may be time for church already, or I may have an hour or so to drink some coffee and do a little more Bible study. Then it's off to church for the 6:00 service. This is comprised of more songs and an evening message. Sometimes after church, several of us head over to Chili's for a quick after-service bite.

Otherwise, I head for home. Sometimes I do a bit more Bible study. At other times I'll watch a little TV. I try to get to bed at a fairly decent time, for there is men's prayer on Monday morning at 6:30AM! But that is for another day...

The Hosts!

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Seattle was the chance to stay with my sister and brother-in-law in a lovely little area called Millcreek. I had a great time with them, though our time was limited due to my schedule and their work schedules. Here are a couple of photos when we went out to lunch...

"Cue Ball" or "Curly"

I'm not sure which of these two names is more "appropriate" but here is a very recent photo.

Crazy Ivan Part Deux

Patsy, since you liked the other picture so much...

Crazy Ivan

Ok, so the crazy part isn't just confined to my parental units. This pic was taken soon after I moved to Logan in 2004. It is probably the one and only time that I will have a beard...but who knows?

Breakfast at IHOP

We met at IHOP with Brady on the day of the wedding. It was funny, because I told the waitress that I would be picking up Brady's tab, and when she got to Brady, all he ordered was water!

Back Once More!

Well, I think the weddings are done for this year! That has been the third one in the last three months. Wow! Hopefully now things will get back in the vicinity of normal again. Today it's back to work, and this weekend is Reserves, so I shouldn't start collecting any dust. On Monday I took the chance to revisit the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field, and spent the afternoon in their library and archives building. I'll get some other pics from the trip posted soon.

On the Road Again, Just Can't Wait To Get On...

Well, the alarm went off at 4am this morning and I am off on another road trip. Don't be sorry for me, I'm a glutton for that sort of punishment. Talk to all y'all later.

My Dad Too!

I think I drove him crazy as well!

Crazy - Part Deux

Sometimes I drive my Mom crazy! These were taken at the airport in December 2003 while waiting for Trista to arrive.

Logan Canyon - Part III
