The Field of the Redeemer

Many of you will be familiar with the concept of Boaz as a "type" of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Ruth, in chapter two, had gone to the field of the "Redeemer" to gather that which would sustain, strengthen and nourish. She went to the field to find that which was necessary for life. Let us be found often in the field of the Redeemer, gleaning from His word and growing in Him. Remember our Lord's response to temptation:

"...man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." (Luke 4:4)

I hadn't noticed some of the typology in the book of Ruth, it looks like there is a lot there. To finally answer your first question about why Ruth put on her best if she wasn't going to be seen - looking at more typology, I would say it might have something to do with redemption, like "fine linen," being clothed with Christ in order to be able to approach the Father (?).

I think you are on the right track. It seems there is importance in how or, in what state, a person comes to the Redeemer. Practically, it could be as simple as being ready for a church service by spending time with the Lord prior...or things along those lines. I by no means have a definitive answer, but the more I study, the more I agree with J. Sidlow Baxter on the limitless treasures found in this little book.
