A Question From Ruth 3

While I haven't posted much on my study of this little book for some time, I have been consistently and steadily working on it. I wanted to ask you all a question and see what different responses or ideas you may have. Here is the question:

In chapter 3, why did Naomi tell Ruth to wash herself, annoint herself and don her best raiment? Or, what was the purpose in having Ruth do this?
